EMBOSSING EXTRAVAGANZA

Karen Cumming

Happy International Women's Day!

What a lovely way to spend a morning, teaching a class to a great bunch of fabulous women!

We made two cards today. The Happy Birthday card is a CASE of Laura Seki's design. I love the contrasting colours. The Thank You card is also a CASE and I have searched and searched for the original to no avail! Anyway, suffice it to say that it came from a very talented crafter and inspired me to try the painted embossing technique.

There are MANY ways to use your embossing folders for all sorts of different looks. Here's the ones I shared in the class today.

Spotlight Embossing

Use a frame to spotlight part of the design

Use Ink to spotlight an area of the image - this was applied with blending brushes using Post-Its to mark out the area

Embossing with Paper Napkins

There are so many gorgeous designs to choose from and I thought the Papillon Potpourri Stamps and coordinating punches would work well with this one!

Embossing Vellum

Try with patterned or plain vellum

Layered Embossing.

Not my favourite designs, but you get the idea. Punch shapes & adhere to cardstock, then emboss.

Piecing Paper Strips

Emboss 3 pieces of different coloured cardstock. Cut into strips and reassemble using the 3 colours in one card

Stamped Embossing

One of my fav's. Stamp first! Then emboss. Who doesn't love cherry blossoms?!

Lastly, if you're like me and can't remember all the embossing patterns you have in your stash, try this memory hack: make a swatch of each of your folders, punch a hole in the corner and attach with an O ring. You can then flip through the swatch to pick the design you want.

If you're thinking of starting a new hobby, learning a skill or making new friends, join me in a class. We'd love to have you!
